Will RB Ron Dayne pull a no-show? What's the status of injured WR Tim Carter? Will Dhani remain in blue? Read on...

Giants Head Coach Jim Fassel said he expected to have 100 percent attendance at the start of New York's off-season training and conditioning program, which began Monday. Apparently, his words never got through to disenchanted RB Ron Dayne.

Dayne was believed to be the only veteran missing that was not excused.

Fassel recently had a conversation in his office with Dayne in which the coach said the player, who has told the Giants that he would like to be traded, told him he would be present. Not exactly.

Dayne was not at Giants Stadium Monday and conversations with the player and his agent, Terry Lavenstein, left no indication Dayne would be around East Rutherford anytime soon.

The other missing vets of note were Amani Toomer, who is vacationing out of the country, Ike Hilliard, who is taking college courses in Florida, and Jeff Feagles, who has yet to move his family from Seattle, where he last played, to the tri-state area.

Second-year WR Tim Carter was on hand and said that he is "two-and-a-half months ahead of schedule." Carter suffered through an injury-plagued rookie season capped off by an Achilles' tear that prematurely ended his campaign. He said it's been tough to be patient, and that he's been reprimanded by the Giants for doing some physical activities, such as playing racquetball, but that he'll be fully ready to go come training camp, if not sooner.

Restricted free agent LB Dhani Jones said while he expects to receive an offer from the Packers, and has several other potential visits, that he'd most like to stay in New York. "I'm a restricted free agent so it's not in my control," said Jones, who recently visited Green Bay. "But I love the Giants." New York's other starting LB/restricted free agent, Brandon Short, has yet to make an official visit.
