Hello Hagan, Again

Posted Nov 16, 2010

Derek Hagan, the veteran wide receiver cut out of training camp, is back as the Giants placed Ramses Barden on injured reserve with a fractured left ankle.

The Giants are back up to four healthy wide receivers after they signed veteran Derek Hagan to replace the IRed Ramses Barden.

Barden was placed on season-ending IR Tuesday after suffering a fracture and a torn ligament in his left ankle during Sunday's game with the Cowboys. That left them with three receivers in Mario Manningham, Hakeem Nicks, and untested Duke Calhoun. But having Hagan back after he was sent packing in training camp not only gives them the ability again to have three experienced receivers, but Hagan can also help on the sagging kick coverage teams.

Hagan caught eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown against Washington last year while playing all 16 games. As a coverage man, he made 11 special teams tackles.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Hagan was originally signed by the Giants Dec. 16, 2008 after spending two-plus years with the Dolphins. He was released Sept. 4 after both Calhoun and since-IRed Victor Cruz concluded outstanding training camps to create a numbers issue.

The Giants also signed DT Dwayne Hendricks to their practice squad to replace DT Nate Collins, who Jacksonville signed to their 53-man active roster last week.
