Rolle "Guarantees" In Face Of Hard History

Antrel Rolle basically guaranteed a win against Green Bay to clinch a playoff spot for the Giants. But they'll have to shake off some nasty history to accomplish that.

Antrel Rolle says a lot of things; some good, some not so good.

What his Monday proclamation after the Giants' spat out a 21-point lead and lost to the Eagles falls into is up for debate. But you can't fault the guy for sticking up for his team.

Rolle all but predicted a victory Sunday in Green Bay, which would seal a playoff spot for the 9-5 Giants.

"I don't think. I know it," Rolle said when asked straight out if the Giants are going to the playoffs. "I don't think it, I know it."

And why is that?

"Because that's what going to happen," he said. "I know it's going to happen this weekend."

Well, for that to happen, the Giants are going to have to shake off some pretty tough history. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, more than 3,000 games have been played where teams held as much as a 21-point, fourth-quarter lead. Only nine times in history have opponents come back to win those games.

And leave it to the Giants, two of those games came against their ledger. The other came on Nov. 26, 2006, when the Vince Young-led Tennessee Titans stormed back from a 21-0 deficit to win 24-21.

Rolle wasn't about to let the loss linger, however. He was thinking of recovery, not mourning.

"We're still right where we need to be," Rolle said. "All we need to do is get in the playoffs, that's it. Everything else after that will take care of itself.

"I'm the prime example of that. Coming from Arizona, we went to the playoffs at 9-7. No one gave us a chance and no one gave us an opportunity. We lost the Super Bowl by a split second. All we need to do is get in, and we will get in and we will look forward to when that time comes."
