New York continued to add depth in its secondary as the seventh round began. The Giants, with the 240th overall selection, picked up Michigan safety Charles Drake. He’s a former running back who made the move to strong safety as a sophomore. Drake, 6-1, 205, recorded 174 tackles, six sacks and an interception during his Wolverine career.

“We didn’t really need a safety but we had a real high grade on him,” GM Ernie Accorsi said.
The Giants added an All-American selection (by The Sporting News, at least) with their first supplemental pick (#249) when they picked Colorado C/G Wayne Lucier. The two-year starter was a standout Northwestern recruit who followed Coach Gary Barnett to Colorado. A former tight end, the 6-4, 301-pound Lucier (pronounced loo-sear) manned the center position as a junior and then shifted to right guard for his senior campaign. The Giants expect him to play center.
With their final pick (#255), the Giants tabbed Eastern Michigan WR Kevin Walter, who has an uphill climb to make the roster to say the least. Accorsi said the 6-3, 214-pound receiver reminds him of Joe Jurevicius and Ed McCaffrey.
