Tuck Coming, Amukamara Doing Well

Justin Tuck and Prince Amukamara were out doing charity work Tuesday, but the news on their injury fronts was encouraging.

Justin Tuck said he might be ready to play by Monday. Prince Amukamara still has a ways to go, but it beats getting around on a scooter.

Tuck, who sat out last week's 28-14 loss to the Redskins because of a slow-healing stinger sufffered against the Jets, said he expects to be ready for Monday's prime time game against the Rams.

Of course, he was optimistic about last week, too, and that didn't quite work out for him. But another week's rest undoubtedly helped more than hurt his situation.

"Talk to me right now, and I don’t see how I will not play on Monday," the defensive end said after his Rush for Literacy charity event at Central Park East Middle School in Manhattan. "That’s me. But obviously we’ve got to go through process of doctors, coaches, general manager, owner, and going through what’s most important for me and what’s most important for this football team."

While Tuck was doing his good deed, the Giants' first-round cornerback was doing his on Staten Island at IS 27 as part of the Giants' "Play 60" program. The program encourages students to get up from the couch and get active.

Amukamara has been getting active himself since having the screws removed from his broken left foot last week. He no longer needs a scooter to ride around on, and he is even allowed to remove the walking boot the medical staff has outfitted him with.

"My ankle gets stiff in there, so I have to take it off sometimes," Amukamara said.

The cornerback is still weeks away from making his Giants on-field debut. He broke the foot his first day in training camp and missed the entire preseason. Still, he'll likely be called upon to step into significant time in an attempt to bolster an injury-depleted cornerback depth chart.

Tuck is the more immediate concern. He said last week's absence was more than a precautionary thing.

"It’s a situation where you don’t want to go out there too early and kind of bang it up and be out a month," Tuck said. "Hopefully this week we see tremendous improvement in it and I’ll be out there on Monday."
