An already feeble pass rush took yet another hit when Osi Umenyiora sprained his ankle against New Orleans. He'll miss two to four weeks, likely the longer timeframe.

As if the Giants' defense needed another injury, now comes Osi Umenyiora's sprained ankle.

According to the Daily News, the pass-rushing defensive end sprained "just about everything in there" when a teammate rolled up on his ankle in the second quarter. Umenyiora went out and never did return, and now he could miss two to four weeks while things heal.

He'll definitely miss the Packers game this Sunday, and probably the Dallas game the next week. After that, it's pretty much up in the air for the pass-rusher who missed the first three games of the season after arthroscopic knee surgery.

An MRI Tuesday indicated a combination of a high ankle sprain and a low ankle sprain, according to the newspaper's source.

Umenyiora had been on the way down, anyway, from a seven-sack start. He didn't have a sack against Philadelphia or New Orleans, and his absence and his lack of production before that was a major reason behind Drew Brees being able to sit in the pocket all night and tear up the pass defense for 363 yards and four touchdowns.

The Giants recorded no sacks against Brees, and failed to get a turnover as they allowed 577 yards of total offense, their second-highest allowance in team history next to the 682 yards against the Bears in 1943.

Jason Pierre-Paul, the only defender who actually did a credible job against the Saints, will now move into the starting lineup again in Umenyiora's spot.

Whatever the lineup, though, it doesn't look good. The Giants could ill-afford to lose another weapon as they face Aaron Rodgers and the high-flying Packers.
