After missing practice on Thursday, New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is confident that he will return to the field in the next day or two.

Hakeem Nicks is no stranger to injuries and during training camp tightness in his groin held him out of practice on Thursday. The Giants’ wide receiver battled foot and knee injuries over the course of his career, but Nicks insists his latest setback isn’t anything serious.

“I don’t feel frustrated at all,” added Nicks. “I wouldn’t even categorize it as an injury,” noted Nicks. “I think it’s just being smart coming off the problems that I had last year with the knee and the foot. I just want it to be anything ongoing. I’ll be back out there as soon as they let me. I think it will be another day or two.”

The Giants are taking extra caution with Nicks who has a history of battling through his fair share of bumps and bruises.

“I think that just comes with the pounding from training camp,” noted Nick. “We’re just trying to play it safe and play it cautious. I don’t think it’s anything serious. If it was a game playing situation and we’re going into week one I definitely don’t think I’d be sitting. Just being so early in training camp we just want to be smart about it.”

Head coach Tom Coughlin is constantly communicating with the star wideout in order to make sure the latest setback isn’t something that will reoccur in the preseason.

“We talk daily about it,” noted Nicks of his talks with Coughlin. “I think we’re on the same page. I’m obviously going to respect his decision being the head coach and respect our trainers.”

With Nicks entering a contract year, the young star is taking every measure to make sure he’s fully healthy when he returns to the practice field.

“Last year I would have probably just kept pushing my body through it,” admitted Nicks. “But being a little bit wiser, knowing the game a little bit more now and knowing the business side of things, I want to be smart.”

With Nicks close to making his return, Big Blue's top receiving target has no doubt that he can hit the ground running.

“I think it’s going to be a matter of making sure I’m in shape, which I have no doubt about and getting back in the flow of things,” Nicks added. “Me and Eli are always going to be on the same page. Eli and I are always going to be on the same page.”
