Vick, Eagles not fearing Giants' pass rush

The Giants Beat

The Eagles quarterback seemed confident about his team’s ability to move the ball during a Tuesday conference call.

The Giants won’t be the only desperate team hitting the field on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. New York’s opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles, come into this week’s game having lost three in a row to AFC West foes. Quarterback Michael Vick and company know that the NFC East is still up for grabs, though, and that makes Sunday’s game all the more important.

“You have to keep in mind that the division is probably the most important aspect of the game right now for us,” said Vick on Tuesday, “When you have division games, you want to stay on top of the division. That’s the pride we have right now.”

Philadelphia’s high-speed offense under the direction of new head coach Chip Kelly got off to a fast start this season in games against Washington and San Diego, but it’s since been slowed down by the superior defenses of Kansas City and Denver.

“They’re just keeping it simple, putting a man on a man and playing simple football,” said Vick of Philadelphia’s opponents, “That’s pretty much what has been the story the last three weeks. Maybe we can change, maybe not, but it’s up to them to figure out how to counter that.”

The good news for the Eagles is that New York’s defense has been less than stellar so far. Although it was able to force three turnovers in a loss to the Chiefs last week, the unit only has four sacks in four weeks so far.

“In the past, they’ve had tremendous pass rushers,” said Vick of the Giants, “I think now they still have good pass rushers over there. They can’t be overlooked. I trust in my offensive line to protect me. It’s been that way since the start of the season and it’s going to continue to be that way.”

Considering how poorly New York’s offense has played lately, keeping the Philadelphia attack out of the end zone should prove vital if the team is to find the win column in Week 5.
