Sunday Camp Notes

Tom Coughlin said Jeremy Shockey is "day-to-day" because of the mild hamstring strain he suffered in practice yesterday. Shockey landed awkwardly after leaping in an unsuccessful attempt to catch a Jesse Palmer pass. Coughlin does not know if Shockey will be able to play in Friday's preseason game against the Jets. Shockey did not play in either of the first two games because of his rehabilitation from June foot surgery.
"It's frustrating for Jeremy," Coughlin said. "It's frustrating for us. It's very unfortunate. His foot feels fine. He did have a number of reps prior to the injury. He was working hard, showed outstanding speed and push off the ball."
Shockey didn't stop for reporters today, but did say in response to a question, "No injury - just a setback."
* Defensive tackle
William Joseph
, who has missed most of camp while recovering from his April surgery for a torn pectoral muscle, is working his way back into the rotation. "He'll be limited in snaps as we go just to get him started but when he plays, he's played well," Coughlin said. "He's done a good job."
* Wide receiver
James McKnight
, who has missed most of camp with a toe injury, is not with the team. Asked if McKnight is still on the team, Coughlin said, "In theory, yes. He had the injury and he's had some further information, so he can't practice. He's not physically here. He's still physically on our team. But that has to be decided."
* Coughlin said he would announce the starting quarterback for Friday's game "before mid-week."
* Middle linebacker
Nick Greisen
, who strained his hamstring in the preseason opener nine days ago, took some snaps with the third team defense Sunday morning. He is hoping to play against the Jets.
"It felt pretty good today," said Greisen, who added that he hasn't let loose yet. "Hopefully, I can go through the next couple of days and do the whole thing. I don't think (playing against) the Jets is too far-fetched, but it depends on what the coaches and the doctors want to do."
