A strong showing by Lorenzen could catapult him into the third spot, behind Eli Manning, who won’t play against the Pats but will be ready to go on opening day, and Hasselbeck.
Lorenzen is still heavier than the Giants would like, and also pretty raw, but the club obviously likes his strong arm and upside. Palmer, meanwhile, hasn’t had as bad a camp as everyone’s been reporting, but he clearly has made enough mistakes that he’ll likely have a rough time sleeping Saturday night before the Giants make their cuts…
While he wouldn’t confirm it, it appears that linebacker Barrett Green lobbied Tom Coughlin for playing time in New England. Green has not taken a snap all summer after offseason knee surgery, and is raring to go.
“Barrett Green is scheduled to play,” Coughlin said. “It won’t be a lot, but we’ll see.”
“I’m ready to go,” said Green, who guessed that he’d play with the second team. “I highly doubt I’ll play more than two or three plays, so I’m not going to get excited. I feel like I’m ready. This is the best I’ve felt since October of last year. All my strength is not back, but I’m full speed.”…
The Giants reached the NFL’s current roster limit by waiving rookie cornerback Antwain Spann. With a 70-man roster that includes five exemptions, the Giants must get down to the regular season roster limit of 53 by 4 p.m. on Sunday.
