Flowers, 6-0 and 215 pounds, played for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe this spring. He had 75 carries for 283 yards and two touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 112 yards and another score.
Flowers originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent from Michigan State
on April 26, 2002. He was waived on Aug. 31 before spending the entire season no the Jets' practice squad. Flowers was re-signed on Jan. 14, 2003 and again released at the end of camp. He did two stints on the practice squad in the 2003 season, the last ending when he was released on Oct. 11.
Flowers was also in the Jets' training camp in both 2004 and 2005.
At Michigan State, Flowers played in 45 games and had 156 carries for 778 yards (5.0-yard avg.) and three touchdowns and 50 receptions for 435 yards. He also had 20 kickoff returns for 332 yards (16.6-yard avg.) and seven special teams tackles.
The Giants signed an underrated running back that could compete to become Tiki Barber's backup. Little John Flowers, who was in the Jets' training camp each of the last four years and spent two seasons on that team's practice squad, was added to New York's RB mix, which includes current backup Derrick Ward and short-yardage specialist Brandon Jacobs.
