Receiver Amani Toomer, who's been slowed by a hamstring injury, is hopeful that he'll return to practice on Tuesday.

"We're hoping (he'll practice) tomorrow," Tom Coughlin said. "I don't know if we'll get him (Monday) afternoon, probably not. But tomorrow."...

Toomer (hamstring), Sinorice Moss (quad), David Tyree (ankle), Rich Seubert (toe), and Osi Umenyiora (tightness) did not practice this morning. Nor did LaVar Arrington, Will Demps or Brandon Short, who continue to work once a day.

Arrington returned to practice yesterday.

"I was happy to be out there," he said. "I felt really good. I'm fine. If you guys watched practice yesterday, you'd see that I'm fine.

"I feel great, I feel my body coming back, I'm dropping a few pounds. It's a good situation. It's an awesome situation that they are taking care of me the way they are taking care of me."...

Sam Madison left practice early with a tight hamstring. "Hopefully he'll be back soon," Coughlin said...

Coughlin said Eli Manning will start at quarterback against the Chiefs. Rob Johnson will be the second quarterback in the rotation. Johnson did not play in Baltimore and will be playing his first game since Dec. 22, 2003, when he was with Oakland. He sat out the last two seasons after undergoing elbow surgery...

Coughlin said Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan are expected to make their 2006 preseason debuts on Thursday, and Jeremy Shockey said that he expects to play on Thursday for the first time this preseason...

Defensive coordinator Tim Lewis and his wife, Shawn, named their newborn son Bryce Andrew Timothy Lewis. He was born last Wednesday.
