Everyone wants first-round draft pick Jeremy Shockey signed and in camp, but while he remained unsigned, at least one member of the Giants was enjoying himself because Shockey was not here.
"I'm having a blast,'' Dan Campbell said.
The Giants have installed several pass plays specifically designed to feature Shockey's unnatural speed, and Campbell during practice has often run the long, downfield routes that eventually will be called for Shockey.
As a third-year tight end, Campbell will mostly be used as a blocker on the line and also in a fullback/H-back role, which is why he's gained 10 pounds and is up to 265.
"Coach [Mike] Pope asked me this morning, just tell me if you're not getting enough fullback stuff,'' Campbell said. "Yeah, I probably ought to be doing more of that, but I'm having a blast running these routes. It's fun to get down there.''
