Johnson Released

The Giants obviously saw enough out of Jared Lorenzen and Tim Hasselbeck that they decided to release Rob Johnson, who was signed earlier in the offseason to compete for the backup QB position behind Eli Manning.

Johnson never seemed to get fully acclimated with the offense nor recover the velocity and arm strength that he had before undergoing 'Tommy John' surgery and missing more than a year of action.

The Giants likely cut Johnson now and not during the final round of cuts to allow him a better opportunity to potentially catch on elsewhere.

What remains to be seen is whether Hasselbeck or Lorenzen will be the number two QB. That'll likely be decided during New York's preseason finale against New England on Thursday.

More Giants cuts are expected soon...
