WR Tim Carter has been the surprise of camp, merely because he has managed to
stay healthy. "He is just a delight when you can watch him racing downfield and
beating guys," says QB Eli Manning. "He has great size and speed. He can be a
superstar if he just manages to stay on the field." The 6-0, 190-pound Carter,
now starting his fifth season with the Giants (he was a second round pick in
2002), led the team with four receptions vs. the Jets (four for 34 yards).

C Grey Ruegamer, filling in for injured starter Shaun O'Hara (knee), has played
well. But he isn't comfortable. "I always reserve judgment," he says. "It is
never as good or as bad as you think it is. We started moving the ball, we
started running. It felt kind of good when we had a running back down the field and
you know that's five or six yards."

SLB LaVar Arrington got his first in-depth taste of action vs. the Jets. "We
are slowly coming together as a defense," he said. "We are improving and it was
another good showing. But we have so much more that we can improve on. That's
our positive. This team is very deep in talent and we have a lot of good young
linebackers, too." He mentioned MLB Chase Blackburn and SLB Reggie Torbor.

FS Will Demps, who showed up during the UFA period from Baltimore, was proud of
the fact that the defense has not allowed a TD in 11 straight quarters (the
blocked punt returned for a TD by the Jets did not count against the defense). "It
is kind of just getting the feel for this defense and the guys and we are
really coming together. We're excited now because we feel comfortable with each
other."

WR Plaxico Burress definitely had a down game. He dropped a pass right in his
hands (meaning he could not publicly call out Manning for poor accuracy), then
drew two costly penalties. "Hey, if you are going to get a personal foul, this
is the best time to do it -- during the preseason. You know, get them out of the
way. The guy [Jets' safety Kerry Rhodes] hit me so I hit him back. I got
caught. They always catch the second guy."
Wilkinson, Gerris (New York Giants) (08/27/2006)

WLB Gerris Wilkinson started the game for Carlos Emmons, and needless to say
the rookie has been immensely impressive in training camp. When he was finished
with his first-team duty, veteran Brandon Short came in and promptly recorded
two sacks. There are strong doubts that Emmons (burner), a 10-year veteran, is
going to make the final roster.
Cofield, Barry (New York Giants) (08/27/2006)

DT Barry Cofield started and impressed Coughlin, who said of the fourth-round
pick via Northwestern: "He did better as the game went along, and he did a
better job than I might have expected against the double team." Cofield has vaulted
at least into the four-man rotation Coughlin is going to use for his DTs. The
others are Fred Robbins, Jonas Seawright and William Joseph.
