Sunday Conference Call : Fassel

In his Sunday afternoon conference call, head coach Jim Fassel talks about putting some pressure on the players, and making subtle changes in practice...

Ken Palmer of the Giant Insider tells us that Fassel had plenty of comments in his Sunday afternoon conference call. Saftey Clarence LeBlanc will be out for the season, and is expected to have surgery today (Monday). The Giants will not look outside the organization for a replacement. Instead they will likely keep Nate Coggins or Ryan Clark.

The Giants TE's were roughed up pretty good in the Saturday exhibition. TE Jeremy Shockey is questionable for the next preseason contest, resting a sprained ankle, and its likely that Dan Campbell will also sit out the Saturday game at the Jets. Both are likely to return for the preseason finale vs the Ravens.

CB Jason Sehorn will return to practice on Monday, and will continue to practice once a day. There is only one practice on Monday.

Dhani Jones did a good job in the Saturday loss, however, the word is that the coaches are liking LB Wes Mallard so much that they are lookin for ways to get him on the field more.

The coaches are still keeping their eye on DE Frank Ferrara, and are going to give him some work against the first team offense in practice, and also in the upcoming exhibition game.

This clearly sends a message to Kenny Holmes, who has already taken a pay cut to stay on the roster. The coaches want to put some pressure on the DE, and some competition just might be the answer.

Although the Giants are still working to improve special team, they will not bringin another place kicker at this time.

Converted TE Darnell Dinkins will stay at TE, although he played some safety in college. The Giants are pleased with his special teams work and his progress in working with TE coach Mike Pope is going well.
