Where better to be than returning from a Hooters restaurant when your named is called in the NFL Draft? That's exactly where Orange, NJ native Jay Alford was when the Giants tabbed him in the third round. Here's what the Penn State DT had to say late Saturday night.

RE: Overall feeling about being drafted by the Giants

I can’t even explain it right now. I’ve been watching the draft all day just waiting for my name to be called. Just to hear it being called is unbelievable. Unbelievable.

Where are you right now?

I’m on my way back home. I’m just coming back from Hooters. On my way home to talk to my grandmother.

Where is the Hooters?

Hooters in Wayne New Jersey.

Did you grow up a Giants fan?

Yeah, I definitely did. I grew up a Giants fan. It’s right around the corner, so of course I had to grow up a Giants fan.

Thoughts on playing for your childhood team?

I get to play for my childhood team and it’s unbelievable. I can’t even explain how I feel right now. I’m so ecstatic right now. It’s tough. I’m trying to talk to you and get it together but it’s tough.

What went down when your name was called? Were you still at the restaurant?

Well, we were on our way back (to my house in Orange, NJ) and I got the call from coach and I stopped the car and I got out. I couldn’t drive anymore. I got out and I pretty much ran down the street. Not down the street, I ran down the sidewalk. So I was good.

Which Coach called you?

I think it was coach Waufle. He called me as soon as it happened, I think, because like I said I wasn’t watching the TV. As soon as he called me, I got out of the car and then I knew that’s what it was.

What are you going to tell your grandmother?

That I’m home and I don’t have to go anywhere. So I’m happy. I’m home.

What’s here name?

Diane Reynolds. She raised me my whole life.

Was she hoping you’d be drafted by the Giants?

She wanted me to be but she was being that grandmother. So she was like, ’Jay, wherever you go I will be happy for you but I’m hoping you go and am praying for you.’
