Smith Appears to be Real Deal

Steve Smith sure looks to be every bit the part of exactly what you’d expect from a high draft pick.

He runs excellent routes and most impressively, he catches basically every catch-able ball thrown his way – and even some that are not catch-able. And all the talk of Smith being just a possession receiver due to a supposed lack of speed seems to be nonsensical chatter as well. Through his first couple months with New York, it’s hard not to get excited about Smith. He seems to be pretty smooth both on the field and off.

The Giants did a great job of finding Amani Toomer’s replacement and Smith’s addition to the receiving corps more than makes up for the loss of Tim Carter, who was traded to Cleveland this offseason. While Sinorice Moss is currently the third WR on the depth chart, mostly due to his having an extra year in the New York offense, you can fully expect Smith to be the first receiver off the bench sooner rather than later.

If we had to bet on one member of this draft class being a star, here’s where the smart money would go.

In the next week or so, TGI will take a close-up look at each of Big Blue’s draft picks and tell you exactly what we’ve seen and what’s going on with the newest Giants.
