TGI Tracks Down Rice

The Giants did their best to whisk free agent defensive end Simeon Rice in and out of their training camp facilities in Albany. However, TGI was able to catch up with Rice for just a few minutes as he returned to his limo outside the Giants offices.
Rice didn’t exactly shed much light on the meetings or his situation during the brief interview, but he did indicate that the meetings went well and that he wouldn’t have made the trip up to Albany unless he was serious about signing with New York.
“Who knows?” Rice wondered when asked if he planned to be in a Giants uniform any time soon. “I don’t know anything. I’m just here prospecting, you know?”
When asked how his visit went, Rice said, “Just prospecting. It’s a good town. The city (New York) is dope. What’s better, you know?”
Rice was asked whether he felt the Giants were serious about signing him or if it was just a ploy to prompt
Michael Strahan
into a decision regarding his retirement. “Hey, I flew in,” he said. “That’s all I can say.”
The 6-5, 268-pound Rice has played 11 NFL seasons, the final six with Tampa Bay. He has a whopping 121 career sacks, which trails Strahan by only 11.5.
There’s been no secret that Rice and Strahan aren’t exactly fans of one another, which is likely yet another reason the Giants had him in as a possible replacement for Strahan.
The former third overall pick in the 1996 Draft was released by the Bucs after failing a physical on July 26 due to his shoulder injury.
Wednesday evening, Rice wasn’t about to divulge any information about his future.
“You know what?” he said. “It’ll come out in the wash. Right now, I’m going to just chill.”
Finally, Rice offered these parting words when asked what the next step was: “Who knows?”
