Giants prep for Panthers

Tom Coughlin put his troops through one light practice Thursday afternoon as the Giants began preparations for their preseason opener, which will be held Saturday night against Carolina.

"It's good to play a game," Coughlin said. "Everyone gets excited to play a game."

Due to injury, several Giants will not be playing a game on Saturday. According to Coughlin, Amani Toomer, Plaxico Burress, Fred Robbins, Aaron Ross, Gerris Wilkinson, Michael Stone and E.J. Underwood will all be held out of action.

However, Jeremy Shockey, Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck and Kevin Dockery are all expected to get some reps against the Panthers.

Coughlin also said that Mathias Kiwanuka will receive more snaps than the rest of the first-team defense because he could use the extra work and that Jared Lorenzen and Anthony Wright, in that order, will follow Eli Manning at quarterback. Recommended Stories
