Things were somewhat back to normal, at least as close to normal as possible during Super Bowl week, less than 24 hours after Media Day. The coaches and players met with the media at the Giants team hotel, the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass.
The only beauties on hand this time around were an unidentified stunner from the NFL Network and ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. And the players said they couldn’t wait to practice. After all, it had been four days since Big Blue had last set a foot on a practice field before they got back to work Wednesday afternoon.
“I never thought I’d say it,” Justin Tuck said, “but practice will be a peaceful environment for us. I’m looking forward to it. I hope we’re out there all day.”
“It’s been a lot of sitting around and waiting the last couple days,” Eli Manning added. “I think guys are anxious.”…
The theme of the day was the new-and-improved Tom Coughlin, who was as jovial as he’s ever been and obviously enjoyed his banter with the media.
“He has really changed,” said Michael Strahan, one of Coughlin’s biggest critics in the early years. “He’s smiling; he’s using the word ‘fun.’
“He has come around and we as players have come around. He’s definitely changed. It’s real and it’s for the better.”
Coughlin was as candid as ever when asked about the relationship he has with right guard/son-in-law Chris Snee.
“We distinguish very well between the family side and the professional side of our relationship,” said Coughlin, who stated that he was “proud” to have Snee as a son-in-law. “When we’re at work, we’re at work; when we’re out of the stadium, we’re family.”
Coughlin laughed before admitting that “the players like to razz him. (They) like to give him some heat.”…
Amani Toomer said there wasn’t a whole lot he and fellow Super Bowl XXXV holdover Michael Strahan could do to help New York’s inexperience cause at this point.
“Everybody’s going to do what they’re going to do,” he said. “All you can do is plant the seed.”…
Quote of the day: “I feel like I can make a difference in the game.” – Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw, who was injured and didn’t play against New England in the regular season.
