Do you think you can exploit the Giants by doing some of what the Eagles did
and you personally in much of the same manner as Donovan did?
Donovan is a mobile quarterback and while I can move around a little bit, the
quarterback running the ball is not a top priority for our offense. We want
to be efficient with the run. We want to be efficient with the pass. We are
going to try to create some balance, like we always do. There are very few,
if any, quarterbacks like Donovan McNabb who can get over 100 yards rushing.
He did it to us (in Jacksonville) and it's something that you don't see very
often.
Kerry Collins lost Ike Hilliard for the season on a big hit. What would it be
like if you lost one of your top receivers?
Obviously, it would certainly hurt our offensive production and it would hurt
the team. It would be difficult to replace a player like Ike. I can only
think about what it would be like to lose Jimmy Smith. That would be a big
blow to the team and hopefully we never have to go through that.
Do you think you can run on the Giants, especially without Keith Hamilton?
It depends on how our line plays, if we show up, if we are getting into the
right play and how our passing game is doing. There are so many different
factors. But it is one of those wait-and-see things. We hope we can, but we
realize that it won't be easy.
What about going against the Giants secondary and especially the young
cornerbacks?
Well, both corners are very good. They are aggressive and they are quick.
They are both in their second seasons and these guys can play. I have been
real impressed. These guys are going to be very good for a long time and will
only get better. They certainly have my respect, and as I see them on film, I
am impressed. I have to be very careful with my throws. I need to be accurate
and make the right decisions. But, these are two of the best young corners I
have seen.
The Giants recent record in national games hasn't been great. What kind of
atmosphere do you expect Sunday night?
Regardless of the Giants record on national television, that has no bearing
on how we approach the game or anything. I'm sure you guys are probably
talking about. We expect an atmosphere in which everyone knows that the game
is on national television. They are going to be fired up. They are going to
come with their 'A' game. Their backs are against the wall, as are ours. I
think it will be a good, competitive football game, one in which I think
certainly the whole country will be impressed with because I think we are two
good football teams. I think our record is not indicating the quality of our
teams. I am expecting a lot of energy and a lot of guys ready to play
football.
