Hardly surprising is the fact that the Giants and head coach Tom Coughlin are close to finalizing the details on a four-year extension for the Super Bowl champion coach. | |||
|
Coughlin, whose job was in jeopardy only an offseason ago, will earn approximately $5 million a year through the 2011 campaign. On the free agent front, New York has already re-upped with punter Jeff Feagles (two years, more than $1 million per) and kicker Lawrence Tynes (five years, $7 million). Jerry Reese and Co. now have until Feb. 29 to sign their own free agents to avoid keeping them from hitting the open market. New York’s three key unrestricted free agents in order or importance are safety Gibril Wilson, LB Kawika Mitchell and RB Derrick Ward. The Giants have stated their desire to retain all three players.
