So, do you know what’s going on with Jeremy Shockey? Before Plaxico Burress dropped his contract bombshell shortly after noon, all eyes and ears were focused on Shockey’s whereabouts.

All we could confirm was that he was on site at Giants Stadium, still recovering from the broken ankle that cut his last season short. However, he didn’t come out to watch either of the club’s two practices, which obviously didn’t sit very well with Coach Tom Coughlin.

Coughlin was asked how his Pro Bowl tight end appeared.

“To be honest with you, we haven’t seen him until today,” he said. “So I don’t really have a lot of information to share with you. I know he was working to get back and hopefully the progress is good. But I really haven’t had any kind of medical report just yet other than the fact that he wouldn’t be able to practice.”

There definitely seemed to be something out of whack regarding the situation of Shockey, who did not meet with the media on Tuesday. All of his teammates who were asked about the situation were very careful with their replies.

“I was happy to see him,” Brandon Jacobs said. “I was happy to see him when he came in this morning. Jeremy is going to be Jeremy. But he is here and that is the good thing about it. And we are just moving forward from there.”

Eli Manning even seemed to lose a little patience about the situation.

“You all are talking about him, not me,” he said.

While it was obvious that his teammates wanted Shockey back on board, what remained uncertain was how excited Shockey was about retaining his starting tight end job.

His agent Drew Rosenhaus was careful not to add any fuel to the fire.

“He's not practicing right now because he's still rehabilitating his ankle,” he said. “He's not in a position to practice right now.”

Rosenhaus added that while there might be smoke around Shockey right now, it doesn’t exactly mean fire will follow.

“Jeremy has stated his position that any discussions in his relationship with the team is something he would like to keep between us and the club and I’m going to obviously respect and honor that,” Rosenhaus said. “I don't have anything additional to add in his case.”

For the record, neither do we. But it sure seems as if we’ll be hearing a lot more about Shockey and his potentially unhappy state in the coming days and weeks.
