Picking Right Up

Eli Manning didn’t miss a beat during the first two practices of 2008 training camp, picking up right where he left off last season.

Manning was especially crisp during the morning session, with his signature throw coming when he fired a perfect spiral down the right sideline that was collected in stride by Amani Toomer. The veteran receiver also didn’t show any rust, posting a beautiful catch in the back of the end zone during the afternoon session.

However, the one player everyone was waiting to see never got on the field Friday, as Plaxico Burress was sidelined by a bothersome ankle. With Burress’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, in town, rumors were flying that Burress was sitting out of workouts due to unhappiness over his current contract, as he did during minicamp in mid-June. But that was not believed to be the case as someone within the organization confirmed that the star receiver’s injury is a legitimate concern.

Since we’re apparently focusing heavily on receivers in this update, we can tell you that both Mario Manningham and Sinorice Moss made nice grabs during the morning, but also made their fair share of gaffes as well. Kevin Boss shone brightly in his first official day as the starting tight end and recent free agent signing Craphonso Thorpe looked very good as well.
