Jason Whittle said he isn't concerned about his move to center.
"Really, the biggest difference is having the ball between your legs,"
Whittle said. "Making the calls and things like that, that comes pretty easy
for me. Even at guard, I try to help out Bobes (Chris Bober) with that. The
calls aren't the hard part. It's just different snapping and blocking at the
same time. I've played center before. I don't think it's going to be a huge
change."
Whittle is moving one spot to his left, beginning with Sunday's game in
Houston against the expansion Texans, because Bober has a torn biceps muscle.
The injury won't require surgery, and the Giants are hopeful Bober won't miss
more than two games. The man who would have been first line to replace Bober
was Dusty Zeigler, but his season ended when he was placed on injured reserve
last week and subsequently underwent knee surgery. Tam Hopkins will step in
for Whittle at right guard as the Giants offensive thin is stretched even
thinner. Hopkins' only offensive action this season was at Dallas, where
Whittle had to leave the game with a back injury.
Whittle will also assume the snapping duties on placekicks, a job he held
from 1999-2001.
