Olivea Done For Year

The hopes were high for former Chargers starting RT Shane Olivea at camp's outset. With camp about to close, Olivea's season is finished before it even began.

The veteran lineman, who was fully enjoying his second chance in the NFL after battling an addiction to painkillers, was unable to shake a back injury and was placed on Injured Reserve.

"We had an extended amount of time here where we tried to improve his situation," Tom Coughlin said. "It didn't seem like we were getting very far. It was very unfortunate, because we thought when we first brought Shane in this would be something where both parties would benefit. We had a veteran football player, a guy who had gone through some things, and was anxious to really start his career over. We thought that this was the right situation. We worked him out; he was in outstanding shape and we didn't think there was going to be any down (side) whatsoever. The unfortunate thing is that on his best practice day, that very evening, he couldn't come back out and practice. We wished him well, and hopefully he will get himself back to where he feels good about having an opportunity."…

Rookie defensive end Antonio Reynolds, who was signed by the Giants Sunday for the second time, was waived/injured. Reynolds hurt his hamstring in his first practice.

Tom Coughlin addressed the television report that he was the intended target of threatening letters from a man attempting to blackmail him.

"As far as the off the field issue that has my name involved in it, the only thing I'll say is that I received two different letters," Coughlin said. "I turned them over to the league authorities, as was recommended. It is in their hands, and that is all I can tell you. I was not aware of this information; whoever leaked this information or put it out there did not inform me that this was going to take place. That is all I can say about it."
