The Giants probably weren't surprised at all to learn that they were awarded a compensatory pick in this upcoming draft.

But they must have been very pleased to learn that it was a third-round choice, the 100th overall selection.

New York was given the lofty pick based on the free agent losses of LBs Kawika Mitchell and Reggie Torbor and S Gibril Wilson, all of whom played extensively for their new teams, compared with the relatively minimal production of their two signees, LB Danny Clark and S Sammy Knight. The Giants now have 10 total picks in next month's draft, including extra picks in the second and fifth round from when they dealt Jeremy Shockey to New Orleans.
