Last year the Giants explained the selection of Kentucky QB Andre’ Woodson in the sixth round because they wanted to groom a young QB to eventually become Eli Manning’s backup.

Apparently, Big Blue isn’t all that confident in Woodson after his disappointing rookie season. Next in line is Sam Houston State QB Rhett Bomar, an Oklahoma transfer that will have a great chance to make New York’s roster. The Giants spent the fifth-round choice they received from the Saints for Jeremy Shockey, the 151st overall pick, to grab the young signal-caller.

The 6-2, 225-pound Bomar is reported to be very talented, but needs some work both mechanically and mentally. In his two seasons at Sam Houston State, Bomar set the school career record with 5,564 yards passing. He also scored 49 touchdowns at SHSU, throwing for 37 and rushing for a dozen.
