Reese Strikes Again

It’s hard to argue that Giants GM Jerry Reese had another strong haul of draft picks during the final weekend of April. Here’s how Jim Sabo broke down the Giants Draft Class of 2009. During the next several days we’ll take a closer look at each of New York’s nine draft choices. In this installment: DeAndre Wright and Stoney Woodson.

6. DeAndre Wright, CB, New Mexico

With their last two picks the Giants took two corners. It’s always good to have a few extra corners around just in case. Wright has decent size (5-11, 198). He does not have blazing speed so he will need to get by on technique. He has above-average ball skills. Injuries have been a concern. He has had both shoulders surgically repaired. At best he will compete for a backup role and play special teams. If he does not land an active roster spot, then the practice squad is a possibility.

Versatile Stoney Hopes to Stick

7. Stoney Woodson, CB, South Carolina

Like Wright, Stoney Woodson passes the eye test for a corner. He is 5-11, 197. He is faster than Wright, but not quite as productive. He is strong and could also potentially play safety.
