The latter of the Eagles' two 2nd-round picks in 1996 (the 61st selection overall), Dawkins capped his first pro campaign by earning NFL All-Rookie Team honors from Pro Football Weekly, College & Pro Football Newsweekly, and Football News... cracked the starting lineup early on as a rookie and has turned a question mark - the Eagles' free safety position - into an area of strength with his speed and aggressive play.
College
A three-year starter at strong safety for Clemson, Dawkins finished his Tigers career with 234 tackles and 11 interceptions. Al All-ACC selection during his senior season, Dawkins' team-leading 6 interceptions tied him for the conference lead, while his 79 tackles ranked third on the Tiger's defense. Dawkins was also an outstanding special teams player throughout his career and finished with 35 stops on those units. |
