And The Hits Keep On Coming

Justin Tryon played the last two quarters Sunday with a badly broken arm and will now undergo season-ending surgery, proving once again that the Giants' secondary is snakebitten.

We could soon see first-round cornerback Prince Amukamara in the gameday lineup, whether his broken foot is ready or not.

The latest injury to hit the Giants' secondary came Sunday in the 20-17 comeback win over Miami, only nobody knew about it until after the game.

Justin Tryon, a special-teamer who had asceneded to a dimeback role covering the slot receiver, played the last two quarters with an arm broken so badly that he'll need season-ending surgery to repair it.

Tryon still managed to drop Reggie Bush for a 4-yard loss at the Miami 16 on a fourth-quarter punt return that started the Dolphins' possession that wound up with a game-sealing interception by Corey Webster.

The former Colt added depth to a unit sorely needing it. Having already lost Terrell Thomas in training camp and with Amukamara trying to hurry back from the broken foot he incurred immediately after his late arrival to camp, the Giants are once again faced with a personnel problem.

Tryon had a defensed pass and two special teams tackles against Miami.

"The gunners, as you know, have not always come through for us, and this kid did," coach Tom Coughlin said Monday. "The other thing I appreciated and I take my hat off to is I was standing close by and the doctors were showing him and talking to him about his injury, and he didn't want to hear about it.

"He said, 'When can I play? Can I play again? Just put a cast on it and I'll play.' That was something, to hear a young man talk like that, how badly he wanted to play."

Tryon was picked up early in October and saw his role increase as the Giants moved third safety Deon Grant closer to the line for run support.

Coughlin also said that WR Hakeem Nicks had an MRI on his hamstring and is day to day, while RB Ahmad Bradshaw's foot is sore. And C David Baas is having tests done on the knee sprain that sent him temporarily to the bench early in the game.
