FRESNO, CA – Fresno State jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead over Air Force and never looked back as the Bulldogs beat the Falcons 48-15 on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium to win at least a share of the Mountain West Conference championship. It's their first conference title since 1999…

Derek Carr threw for 452 yards and four touchdowns as Fresno State captured its first conference championship since sharing the WAC crown in 1999.

First Half Notes

Fresno State scored on two consecutive two-play drives that totaled 42 and 43 seconds, respectively.

Derek Carr threw a lateral to backup quarterback Greg Watson, who lined up at receiver, then toss it back to Carr whose initial read was covered but passed it to Isaiah Burse. He did the rest gaining 28 yards to the Bulldogs 36.

Carr would find an open Davante Adams on the next play. Adams juked the last defender and raced 64 yards for the games opening touchdown with 11:01 to play in the first quarter.

Less than two minutes later, Carr would find Burse for a 36-yard touchdown pass to complete a two-play, 35-yard drive set up by a Phillip Thomas forced fumble.

Down by two scores, Air Force went for it on fourth down from inside its own 35. The ‘Dogs stuffed the attempt and took over at the AFA 34. This time, FS need 3 minutes and 33 seconds to score but capped it in style with a trick play for a touchdown.

Facing a third and goal, the ‘Dogs lined up with six offensive linemen and a four-man backfield – three running backs and quarterback Derek Carr line up off center. Rouse, behind center, took the shotgun snap and was stopped at the one. On fourth down, in the same formation, Rouse faked the run and threw a jump-pass to a wide open Marcel Jensen.

The Bulldogs made their only mistake on their next drive as Carr and Rouse muffed the exchange at the AFA 38. The Falcons answered with a six-play drive culminated by a 10-yard Conner Dietz to Ty MacArthur touchdown pass.

Quentin Breshears added a 26-yard field goal and Carr would hit Jensen for his third touchdown pass of the half to cap the first half scoring.

Carr completed 18-of-20 passes for 279 yards in the first half and Rouse gained 63 yards on 15 carries. Burse and Adams each had five receptions and 126 and 94 yards, respectively.
